Tell me what you eat and I will tell you who you are
What we eat is becoming more and more a trait of our personality. Between vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, flexitarian in addition to Paleo, Blood type diet, Mediterranean diet, gluten-free, and/or celiac, our dietary requirements have never been so vast and complex. Where did the old fashioned omnivore go? Whether we have decided to change our diet for medical or ethical reasons, we certainly have more choices and options at the supermarkets and restaurants than our grandparents ever had.
I personally stopped eating meat in 2017 and I am now what we call a flexitarian: mainly vegetarian but flexible 🙂 I haven’t eaten meat for the past 3 years, primarily for ethical/moral reasons, but time to time, I do eat fish as well as dairy products, mainly yogurt and cheese. I also try to avoid gluten as much possible (IBS issues) and so far, it works well for me. I love healthy and nutritious food and find that vegetarian food offers plenty of variety. Most vegetarian dishes are everything but boring, most of them are very colorful, rich in flavor, and just so yummy!
Food is not only important for the nutritional aspect but it has also to remain a source of pleasure. I truly admire people who follow a strict diet and stick to it. Many do so without even having dietary requirements but because they feel better this way. I personally find it challenging from a social point of view (I still want to be invited to BBQs!). I believe that at the end of the day, everyone should know what works better for them in order to keep a healthy, strong, and energetic body and mind. Because to me, all are linked. Whatever you put into your body will have a direct impact on your brain function. I highly recommend BRAIN FOOD by Lisa Mosconi where she compares the different diets and their impacts on life expectancy.
